Battery Materials Research and Innovation That Moves With Industry

Sep 25, 2025

The pace of progress in batteries isn’t slowing down, and neither are the industries driving that change. From next-gen EVs and eVTOLs to energy storage systems and aerospace platforms, the pressure is on to develop solutions that are lighter, smarter, and more scalable.

At the Avocet Research Centre (ARC), we’re proud to support that mission through focused, application-driven battery materials research and innovation. As we prepare to exhibit at

The Battery Show North America this October, we’re spotlighting one of our standout developments: Flyweight, our ultra-light, bimetallic cell tab designed specifically for weight-sensitive, high-performance applications.

Why Battery Materials Innovation Matters Now

Lightweighting is no longer a niche goal, it’s a priority across sectors. In aviation, every gram matters. In motorsport, performance is everything. And in the growing e-mobility and energy storage markets, efficiency and manufacturability go hand in hand.

That’s where materials innovation comes in. At ARC, our team works closely with customers to address practical challenges around conductivity, compatibility, corrosion, bonding, and safety. Whether it’s prototyping a new component or testing alternative materials, we aim to reduce time-to-decision and move partners closer to scale-up.

Spotlight on Flyweight: A New Approach to Cell Tab Design

flyweight bimetallic lead tab

Developed by ARC, Flyweight is a bimetallic tab solution that combines copper and aluminium to deliver significant weight savings compared to traditional nickel or copper-based tabs, without compromising bonding strength or conductivity.

Why it’s gaining attention:

  • Ideal for pouch cell designs in eVTOLs, motorsport, aerospace and advanced EVs
  • Reduces cell weight at scale without introducing complex manufacturing steps
  • Compatible with ultrasonic welding, enabling fast and efficient integration
  • Approved by top-tier cell manufacturers, including those supplying the highest levels of performance in motorsport

Meet Us at The Battery Show North America

We’ll be exhibiting from 7–9 October at the UK Pavilion, Stand 3222, alongside Avocet Battery Materials (ABM).

You can pre-book a meeting with us here.

If you’re part of an R&D team, engineering group, or commercial department working on batteries for electric vehicles, aerospace, defence, eVTOLs, energy storage, or high-performance electronics, we’d love to connect. Let’s talk materials. Let’s talk testing. Let’s talk Flyweight.
